Information Technology Services is currently seeking an experienced Server Support Specialist. Primary duties of this position include maintenance, deployment and support of Windows and Linux systems. The position requires skill in Windows system administration including scripting (VBScript, PowerShell, Perl). Experience with virtualization systems (VMWare), Microsoft Exchange, and Mac OS X deployments a plus. Must work in parallel with multiple projects, meet strict deadlines and coordinate with all levels of IT Services staff.
Two or more years of current Windows/Linux datacenter experience in managing medium-to-large scale server infrastructures in academic or business settings. Desired experience includes Windows Server, Active Directory, Terminal Services, SQL databases, Exchange, cloud email services, SAN storage arrays, backup architecture, server hardware, file systems, networking protocols, knowledge of data security best practices and creation of technical documentation. Experience with VMware and PowerShell is highly desirable. Proven ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and deliver results. Proven experience at developing disaster recovery plans and procedures as well as expertise at tracking and reporting on key metrics. Experience working in SAN/Blade server environments. College degree, preferably in computer science or information technologies, or technical training plus experience.
The purpose of this position includes the management of all physical and virtual servers on campus and corresponding services including user account creation, security maintenance, Exchange mail services, Office 365 integration, anti-virus software maintenance, hardware support and upgrades, group policy, daily security log monitoring and backups of critical data. In coordination with network administrator, ensure minimal downtime of all services. The Server Support Specialist will be expected to stay current with emerging technologies and recommend solutions that will enhance the server infrastructure. Responsible for LINUX and/or Windows security, backup, and disaster recovery. Assist in management of the campus data center. Provide back up support to the network environment. Provide tier 3 level support for help desk and other user-based services. Provide support as needed for various software integrations. Monitor servers and the UPS for maintenance and upgrade issues. Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Services Manager.
