Full-time Manager/Sr Manager - Business Intelligence

This is going to be a different job description in that I am going to try to communicate in as transparent of a manner as possible to ensure we aren’t wasting each other’s time.
This is a full time permanent position working for a Top 3 Business Intelligence Software Product Company in their Professional Services Division in the BAY AREA. You will work from home when not on a client site.
This role will act as a similar level to a Big 4 Manager/Sr Manager role. You will be responsible for working with customers.

There are multiple aspects to this role:
Delivery Component (50%). This has similarities to a Program Manager role where you are responsible for one or many anchor accounts or many transactional accounts. You are in charge of your accounts everything about them from scope, schedule, budget, issues, mitigating issues, executive communication, and team communication.
Team Management. You are responsible for the care and feeding of your team. You are responsible for growing their career and making sure they are happy and building the skills, expertise and experience with billable work at our clients.
Business Development is the third and last of the priorities. We want someone that can land and expand. If you are on an account you need to look for opportunities to expand services, expand education, expand license. You won’t run those sales cycles, you will make the Director or Account Executive aware of them.

The reason this role is attractive is because of the company. They have publically gone out and said, “We are going to be involved in the hot areas of the industry.” They are involved heavily in Business Intelligence Mobile. When you look at what Samsung and Apple are doing in the mobile area and pushing mobile out to the enterprise it is an exciting place to be. Additionally, our client is heavily involved in the Cloud. So how are we going to deploy software as a platform of the service or software as a service out to our clients giving them a better value proposition and a better experience working with a service organization? Those are the things that are very important to this company and that is what they are involved in. Not to mention the areas of social where they were the first to market in taking Facebook data and providing an aggregated data of over 16 million Facebook users on their pages they like (music, different sorts of media, etc.) and being able to present that in a meaningful way to their clients (in particular marketing type of clients) it’s a great place to be from a career growth perspective. They are in the hot areas and continuing to grow their company rapidly.

Challenges to the role:
Our client works with a variety of clients that recruit top talent from top universities and so you are working with people whose expectations can be high. Additionally our client is expanding their solutions product line so you have to be a quick learner. You will need to come up to speed on 8 different product lines and be able to service them and be able to mentor your teams and service them.

We are seeking someone with experience in a Program Manager type of role. We want to know they have worked directly with clients, were successful. We want to know that they learned from their mistakes and have grown in those roles. Ideally someone who has been in Management Consulting preferably from a Big 4 firm or Software Services. We want evidence that someone is a true self starter who won’t give up and is persistent enough to get the job done and savvy enough to raise their hand and ask for help. And smart enough that they can scan the field and use all resources available to get the job done.

Candidates who do well typically knock the delivery management portion out of the park. Where we can insert them in an anchor account, or multiple anchor accounts and they have finger on the pulse of everything going on in that account. On team management we want someone who communicates well and is a good coach with their team as well as someone who can roll up their sleeves when necessary and work side by side with individual contributors, but on the other hand know that they can’t do all the hands on work themselves and they have to show this team how to do it once and then their team has to do that.
We want someone who is business savvy enough that they are able to get in tight with the client in an advisory fashion and help manage the team that delivers so software consulting and then help to land and expand.
This role reports to a Director and the Director reports to the VP. The next step in this career path is setting someone up for Director.
